IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HALLOWEEN CANDY!
“When the witches start riding their brooms and when you start to see black cats more than the normal. When the witches moon appears and laughs and whispers, ‘it’s all hallows eve (Halloween).”
Halloween is one my favorite holiday (other than Christmas, of course) Now I know I’m certainly not Morticia or Endora but I just may have some tricks up my sleeve this Halloween for our Lil tricksters and a whole lot of delicious candy they’ll howl about!
Let me let you on a secret; I’m a child of the 70’s Yes, that’s right the 70’s bell bottom Jeans and funky large lapels jackets and shorts and platform shoes. And a lot of my childhood memories are about Halloween. I grew up applauding the good witch and booing for the bad ones. What I would give to pop into a room like Endora or twitch my nose like Samantha Stevens did on Bewitched and my house instantly clean itself!
I have read Casper the friendly ghost and Wendy the good little witch comic books. And let’s face it; it was always Halloween at the Munster’s and of course the Addams Family’s house. My best friend and I could stay up late and watch Creature Features with Bob Wilkins on Friday’s we would always have a contest to see who can stay up the longest.
I danced to Thriller by Michael Jackson so many times, I think I removed the grooves from the record. Yes, those were the days. I remember my Dad and I would make my Halloween costumes usually make out of paper mache and cardboard. We would always go to this pumpkin patch in our little city by the Bay and pick up a few pumpkins Be Picking out a pumpkin would always remind me of Linus from the Peanuts looking up in the sky and trying to find the great pumpkin…
But the best part of Halloween was going trick or treating through our neighborhood. Trying to get all the candy was the goal, M&M’s Chocolates, Chocolate coins, Andes Thin Mints I really think Hershey Kisses were my favorite. We would always have those orange plastic bags the would have a pumpkin on them and collect all those delicious candies! We get to the front door and YELL “Trick or Treat” Then our neighbors would try to guess who we were and most of the time they couldn’t figure it out.
When our bags got too heavy to carry, we’d head home to count all that glorious treasure. My best friend and I would separate our candy into piles on the living room carpet and trade each other for the ones we liked the best!
